Belushi’s Bar in London Bridge scoops ‘Pub Industry Oscar’ as the nation’s best boozers are honoured in UK’s most prestigious drinks trade awards
Belushi’s London Bridge has been named the UK’s Best Sports Bar in the 2019 Great British Pub Awards.
The Borough High Street-based bar was honoured at a gala ceremony at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel on Thursday 5th September after beating off competition from all over the UK.
The judges were particularly impressed by how Belushi’s elevates the party atmosphere during live sports events, offering its young customers innovative ways to watch their favourite sport including experiential features of the bar and high spec audio visual. The bar also screens a massive variety of sporting events including niche sports.
The awards – organised by pub industry bible The Morning Advertiser – celebrate the best in the business across more than 20 different categories, covering everything from the UK’s Best Pub for Beer, Best Pub for Family and Best Pub for Food, to the UK’s overall Pub of the Year award.
Ed Bedington, editor of The Morning Advertiser which organises the awards, explains:
“These awards really are the pub industry’s equivalent of the Oscars, so to win one is a huge achievement.
“By winning one of our awards, Belushi’s in London Bridge has shown it really is one of the UK’s finest.”
Alex Philiotis, General Manager of Belushi’s says
“It’s an honour to have won Best for Sports in the Great British Pub Awards. We’ve worked so hard to provide a cutting-edge sports viewing experience for our customers, so it’s a fantastic feeling to be recognised for our efforts. A very proud achievement for our team.”
The win for Belushi’s London Bridge comes after a refurbishment of the site in 2017. The news also comes after a recent refurbishment at the Hammersmith branch. The West London site has introduced London’s first stadium seating enabling customers to watch sports from a giant HD projector from the new Belushi’s stadium stand, recreating the game day atmosphere.
