Student.com, the world’s largest marketplace for student accommodation, announces the appointment of Dan Baker as General Manager, EMEA
Baker joins the team as part of its ongoing international expansion following a successful 2018, which saw over 250,000 additional beds globally being available for students.
Baker brings with him an impressive background in the travel and student sectors, and in his role at Student.com he will hold general management responsibility for the EMEA business. Working closely with the teams servicing over 400 cities across the globe, Baker will be leading using his knowledge of strategic management and digital expertise to a company that is at the intersection of technology, travel, education and real estate.
As part of his role, Baker will be focused on supporting the business by continuing the integration of its digital automation, increasing growth of bookings into and from EMEA, as well as intensifying Student.com’s existing partnerships programme. In addition, Baker will provide support across marketing and communications, bookings and supply.
“2019 is set to be a strong year with the addition of Dan Baker on board to lead our EMEA business. We started building a presence in London back in 2014 and the UK is now a major market for us both domestically and for foreign students. In order to continue growing we need strong leadership and we were really impressed with the impact Dan made in the student world with building StudentUniverse in the UK”,
comments Luke Nolan, Founder and CEO of Student.com.
Speaking about his announcement, Baker adds
“the opportunity at Student.com for future growth and increased market share is great, and that’s something I’m looking forward to working towards with a high performing team – setting more records in being the world’s largest marketplace for student accommodation. From a local perspective, my focus for the UK will be to improve Student.com’s proposition with increasing numbers of beds and private landlord properties and to increase the number of students experiencing our great service.”
Previously, Baker has worked for student travel booking site StudentUniverse as General Manager for the UK. After Flight Centre acquired StudentUniverse in December 2015, Baker worked as Head of Digital for Flight Centre Europe, leading its online retail strategy.
