New for 2020, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter will be opening two new contemporary classrooms as their award-winning education programme expands to include STEM subjects
The Studio Tour education programme includes a 45-minute lesson as part of a school’s visit, taught by qualified teachers in purpose-built classrooms, with access to exclusive props and costumes. Meeting exam board specifications and linking to National Curriculum programmes of study, the cross-curricular lessons include ‘Costume Characterisation’ and ‘Script to Screen’. Launching in 2020, two new STEM offerings will be focusing on ‘The Art of Foley’ and ‘Movie Mathematics’.
These lessons will see students practically explore the significance of sound in film in ‘The Art of Foley’ and discover the importance of scale in bringing half-giant Hagrid to life on screen in ‘Movie Mathematics’.
The two new spacious classrooms feature high-resolution screens and activities provided on interactive tablets to enhance the learning experience for students. The STEM offerings will also introduce props from the Harry Potter films that have never been seen before in the education programme.
From a recent visit, English teacher Oli Crook described the teachers as
‘‘having the ability to inspire creativity in their students, with lessons that are well planned and structured.’’ He said ‘’the lessons give students an excellent opportunity to see the application of English in an industry they may not have considered its importance in before.’’
Since opening in 2012, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London’s award-winning education programme has taught over 100,000 students across Key Stages 2-5 and received the prestigious Sandford Award and the Learning Outside the Classroom quality badge.
All schools visits include free downloadable teaching resources, free planning visits for teachers and free parking and coach driver place. All visits and lessons must be booked in advance subject to availability. More details on school visits are available at https://www.wbstudiotour.co.uk/schools
